Information for Instructors

Syllabus Statement

The Writing Center provides free, one-to-one writing support to all SHU students, regardless of academic discipline or background. Peer writing consultants will work with students at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to revisions. Learn more about our services, what to expect from a session, and online writing resources at writingcenter.sienaheights.edu.

Support Services We Provide to Students

Your students can make appointments in advance through Navigate. The standard appointment length is 30 minutes. Peer writing consultants will work with students on assignments from courses in any discipline.

We want you to encourage your students to use our services. As you do so, please keep the following in mind:
  • Consultants will work with students at any stage of the writing process. They can guide students through brainstorming exercises, creating outlines, drafting, and revising. Encourage your students to come early in the process and let them know they can come more than once for the same assignment.
  • If you require students to use the writing center, please give them multiple opportunities to schedule appointments throughout the semester.

Classroom Visits

Our virtual class visits will introduce your students to the support services available through the SHU Writing Center. Please contact the Center Director, Professor Alexander Weinstein, at aweinste@sienaheights.edu to discuss scheduling a virtual class visit tailored to your class's need.
